We progress

In keeping with this page's new status as a vanity journal, I thought I'd tell you about my weekend.

That is to say, this is a progress report, as there's nothing of substance to report otherwise and I'm doing nothing at all outside of mixing.

Two more songs down. Well, one will get the final lock-down tonight, but it's essentially done. I got the mix set up in just about a day on this, although it's a sparse, simple song so that's not saying much. The one before it came together nicely as well but still ended up consuming five days.

I've got a month left, and approximately eight tunes left to mix. I've gotten six done.

Will I make it?

Dunno.

Working on a purely personal/creative project with a deadline is proving to be an interesting--if difficult--challenge. It kind of reconfigures what would otherwise have been a completely unconstrained process, imposing a framework somewhat like those present on the production of a show or piece of music on a regular job...sort of like making a TV series! Compromises have to be made, hard and fast creative decisions must be made quickly and in confidence, with no second-guessing...stuff like that.

The thing is, despite the pressure, I think it's a good thing. Having constraints can be positive. Like working within a form, the friction and energy that might be sparked by the collision of the will to perfect with the hard limits of a schedule might themselves be an added value. The end product might be less perfect, in a clinical sense, but maybe, hopefully, it will have more energy and vitality. That's the hope...or the rationalization for mistakes I'll rue forever!

Oops...gotta go to work. Talk at ya soon!
