Radio free huh?

There's been a lot of discussion lately about the state of radio, the FCC, and censorship. Mostly, I've been finding it terribly difficult to get exercised over Howard Stern's travails, or some other shock jock with a weird name. But, Matt Welch has some hard and terribly right words about LA's own NPR affiliate KCRW and about some worrying fallout from the Stern/Clear Channel stuff. Any Angeleno who's spent any real time around me has probably heard me rant about KCRW. Matt nails some of what's wrong with KCRW, a station whose timidity (certainly relative to the abundance of self-congratulation on offer) is matched only by the abrasiveness of its management and unctuousness of its on-air personalities. |
