. . .

The stew dee oh

For those who've followed the interminable saga of the studio, there's big news.

Last night, for the first time, actual sound was issued forth in the room!

I think I saw god.

Really...I couldn't believe what was coming out of the monitors. I only listened to a few DATs of finished mixes...I mean...I heard things in my mixes I never heard before. Sounds had a solidity and presence, and space and air and all this other cool stuff that I never could get out of my ghetto living room setup. The stereo imaging is just amazing. The monitors have utterly disappeared. It kind of took my breath away.

No, I'm not complementing myself for a job well done. It's the fruit of thousands of frustrating hours of work and labor and studying and reading and making sure I did this right.

It's not all there yet; some details still have to be dialed in, and if you move into the back half of the room, especially off center axis, the bass gets pretty unruly...but I knew that would happen. There's still some work to be done acoustically on the back half, but I can do it at my leisure.

The important thing is, if it's me alone in the room, I can get to work in a few days. I have to finish calibrating the mixer and levels and stuff (the mixer has an oscillator!) and I still have to connect the computer and some of the rest of the instruments, but ladies and gentlemen, we have a working room!

You cannot imagine how happy this makes me.

Congratulations, officially, on your new studio. I expect I'll got to hear it in a few days.

Just taking a quick coffee break and wanted to post a hello
