The happy news: I saw The Station Agent last night, courtesy of Miramax, and it was wonderful. Too tired to make any real comments on it, except that the hype it got at Sundance is deserved. It's a first rate, classic American indie film, if there's such a thing as a classic American indie film. Two thumbs up.
My buddy Dave and I went to the famous Casa Bianca afterwards, and there was no line. I repeat: on a Thursday night, around 10, there was no waiting at Casa Bianca.
Something is deeply amiss in the universe.
The MTA strike is over. That's good. I actually missed the trains, and they'd only been running a couple of months before the strike.
I'm beginning to regret talking about certain things on this site. Well, not regret, because more traffic isn't bad, but there are certain Google searches that send a never-ending stream of people here. Weird. In the case of at least one old, legendary LA punk band, I'm number one on Google. That's just not right. I'm also getting a wild number of people coming here looking for mp3s of a certain unofficial early release of a very popular electronic group. I can't help you guys...sorry. I also get lots of people looking for the Team Bianchi jerseys from this past Tour de France. Again, sorry mes amis. I also got a rather irate sounding comment a month ago from the owner of a restaurant I ate at in Mississippi--a restaurant I adored--because I come up in the first few entries in Google when you enter his place's name. In the summary as it appears on Google my fragmented comments can be misread as very negative. Not my fault though...blame Google. I said the guy's place was awesome, and it is.
The latest is a search from wildly different countries on other sides of the planet looking for something I cannot begin to understand: two words and a letter, the first being a common prefix (c o m), the second being the word main, and the third, just a letter, k. Never got them before; got several today. From Poland and Japan.
What the hell? Did I miss something? A cosmic convergence? They've got Polish cable TV in Japan and simulcast some weird show?
Kafka. I blame Kafka.
