Create:Fixate

Los Angeles arts fans and patrons, Create:Fixate is having its first bi-annual silent auction fundraiser this coming Thursday, October 23. To date, Create:Fixate have promoted a quarterly one night event in both downtown and Bevery Hills. They've included a vibrant roster of participating artists and musicians and they're looking to expand their activities beyond the scope of single nights. I participated as a DJ at one of the earlier nights and have attended several more. They're wonderfully open-ended events that are as much a fine venue for increasing the visibility of rising artists as they are incredibly fun parties. If there's a dominant theme, it's one of interdisciplinary collaboration, highlighting the cross-pollinating energies of different media. Photography, painting, collage, DJ culture, live performance, graffiti, sculpture, limited installations, and the places where these collide are emphasized by their placement alongside and sometimes within each other. If you've been or have participated (some of you have done both), you know what it's like. If not, why not check it out this Thursday? There will be great music, great art, and lots of creative, fun people. And if it's a way to help get talented people connected to other like-minded people and increase everyone's opportunities--and do that without having to wait for the annointing hand of elite galleries, major media, major labels, and other soul-crushing incarnations of the devil--then all the better. The site has more information. |
