Why do people keep moving to the west side? There is no parking. There are more cars than ever. It's hell.
I went to dinner last night with some friends at the very nice Rosalind's on Fairfax between Olympic and Pico, in what I guess is now being officially called Little Ethiopia. They've got the blue city signs that say so. There was just no parking, and the backup on Fairfax getting from the 10 to the restaurant was murder. I spent as much time--25 minutes--between Pico and getting parked as I did getting all the way from my house to Pico. Ridiculous.
And yeah, I consider Fairfax the west side. Certainly, if nothing else, it's contiguous with all the other most horrifyingly congested parts of LA: Hollywood, West Hollywood, Bevery Hills, Mid-Wilshire, Fairfax, Century City, Westwood, etc. The traffic and parking there has gotten so bad that I am at the point where I refuse invitations to certain things, depending on the day and time. I just don't need that aggravation.
And the Hollywood Bowl is the Seventh Circle of that hell.
Out here on the east side, we have space. Beautiful, open, livable space.
To hell with the beach!
