Blog Mela

Here's an interesting collection of links to various India-related blog entries (link via Instapundit).

Of particular interest to me is Varnam's entry on the discovery and excavation of India's mythical Saraswati river. Turns out it's not so mythical after all, or so say researchers.

The Saraswati always fascinated me. I have "visited" it, inasmuch as anyone can visit a river that doesn't exist; even I suppose, bathed in it (technically this was at the confluence of the Jamuna, Ganges, and Saraswati). I was never able to get a clear answer on its status from the various people I talked to about it in India, and over time, as a function of the gradual accretion of differing information, it came to resemble what it in fact was most often described as: a myth.

Anyway, it's interesting to discover that it apparently exists, or existed.

My greatest inspiration in the kitchen ever--Madhur Jaffrey--did a radio show about this on the BBC a month ago; here's a link to the article.
