This was kind of hard to believe at first but this morning a horse was hit by a car on the 134. It was where the freeway passes by the Equestrian center, which probably explains where the horse came from. Unbelievable really. Two news vans and a helicopter were there, many cops, and a whole bunch of vehicles I couldn't quite place: animal control probably and a vet or something related. Strangely, there were no wrecked vehicles, but they may already have been removed by the time I got there. The two right lanes were closed, and the horse lay in the second lane, its head pointing against the flow of traffic, its legs towards the side of the freeway. As far as I could tell, it was largely intact but there was blood everywhere. I can't imagine it would have survived. There was something very wrong with seeing the lustrous, brown coat of this beautiful creature lying immobile on a freeway, its legs and who knows what else crushed.
I tried to find out more on several news sites but found nothing. I just don't know how this happened and I wonder too about the driver(s) involved and their vehicles. I've seen what even a deer can do to a car at 35 miles per hour, but at something above 60 or 70, and with a thousand pound animal? Man...terrible.
